What’s Your Failure Response Style? Quiz (And How to Level Up!) | The CognoZen Method

Take the quiz and keep reading to learn what your Failure Response Style is and helpful tips on how you can level up!

Let’s be honest…failure doesn’t feel good.

It’s never fun to put your all into something and come up short. It can cause embarrassment, shame, and make you question whether you’re “good enough” to have what you desire.

If you’re feeling this way right now, don’t worry. We’ve ALL been there, we’ve ALL come out of it, and, if we keep living, we might even experience those feelings again (probably most likely).

But to put everything into perspective, failure is a normal and necessary part of life.

When babies first learn how to walk they “fail” repeatedly until they get it right…and no one judges, blames, or shuns them for it.

So why are you putting so much pressure on yourself to be perfect at whatever you’re trying to do right now? When did making mistakes start to mean that we’re “unworthy”?

Failing helps us learn what we’re doing well, what we need to change, and what changes will help us become the best version of ourselves as we move forward.

Our failures are the necessary steps that get us from where we are to where we want to be – nothing more, nothing less.

Take this quiz here to find out what your failure response style is. Then come back to learn more about your archetype and get helpful tips on how you can level up your life and become more resilient today!

The Resilient Phoenix: Rising From the Ashes

You rise from the ashes stronger than ever. You see failures as temporary setbacks and learning opportunities. Your resilience is inspiring! You embrace challenges and view mistakes as stepping stones. You have a growth mindset and a strong sense of self-belief.

Resilient Phoenix Strengths:

  • Unwavering Optimism: You possess an innate ability to find the silver lining in even the darkest clouds. The majority of the time you’re a “glass half full” kind of person.
  • Adaptability: Change doesn’t scare you; you see it as an opportunity for growth and evolution. When you’re stagnant, you feel stuck. It’s all about leveling up, baby!
  • Mental Toughness: You possess a remarkable ability to bounce back from setbacks and challenges. Life may knock you down but it could never keep you down!
  • Solution-Oriented: You don’t dwell on problems; you focus on finding solutions and moving forward. Eye on the prize at all times.
  • Inspirational: Your resilience is contagious, motivating others to overcome their own obstacles. You’re a natural-born leader and everyone’s favorite cheerleader.

Resilient Phoenix Benefits:

  • Thriving in Adversity: Who’s scared? Not you! You’re equipped to handle life’s inevitable ups and downs with grace and determination. Life may not be easy, but we’d never know by looking at you.
  • Rapid Growth: You learn and grow from your mistakes, using them as stepping stones to success. You’re the roadrunner of adapting. Meep meep! (Okay super corny, I know…)
  • Strong Relationships: Your optimistic and supportive nature attracts positive people into your life. People are grateful to have you in their inner circle and want to support you in any way they can.
  • Mental Well-being: Your resilience acts as a buffer against stress, anxiety, and depression. Life can get tough, but you’re WAY tougher. (Even when you feel weak.)
  • Achieving Goals: Your unwavering determination helps you push through obstacles and reach your dreams. You refuse to give up before you reach your goals and that’s admirable.

Resilient Phoenix Challenges:

  • Minimizing Emotions: While your quick rebound game is admirable, you might sometimes suppress or dismiss difficult emotions, which can lead to burnout or unresolved issues.
  • Impatience: Your eagerness to move forward can lead to impatience and frustration when you’re facing delays or setbacks. This resistance can lead you to avoidable mistakes, impulsive decisions, and unnecessary roadblocks.
  • Overextending Yourself: Where my fellow over-givers at?? Your willingness to help others can lead to neglecting your own needs. Remember, it’s great to give, but not to your own detriment.
  • Ignoring Red Flags: Your optimism might cause you to overlook warning signs in situations or relationships. This can lead to extra heartbreak and challenges that could have been avoided.
  • Missing Learning Opportunities: While you move on quickly, you might miss out on deeper reflections and valuable lessons that could come from analyzing failures more closely.

Tips for The Resilient Phoenix:

  • Feel Your Feelings: Allow yourself to experience the full spectrum of emotions, even the uncomfortable ones. Feelings are fleeting reminders that we are alive. Learn to embrace and make peace with them to get the most out of life. Journaling, talking to a trusted friend, or seeking professional help can be valuable tools.
  • Practice Patience: Develop patience by setting realistic expectations, reminding yourself that progress takes time, and focusing on the present moment. You don’t have to be “perfect” or get everything done today. You’re allowed to slow down and fully enjoy the journey and all of the experiences it brings you. You won’t fall behind or “miss out” on anything. As a matter of fact, when you slow down you’re more likely to notice all of the things that you miss when you speed through life with blinders on. Be patient with yourself, others, and your process. You’re doing great!
  • Prioritize Self-Care: Make time for activities that nourish your mind, body, and spirit. This can mean reading, spending time in nature, hanging out with friends, taking a relaxing bath, meditating, etc. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Do whatever you need to to maintain your mental, physical, and emotional balance and strength.

Remember, your resilience is a gift. By embracing your strengths and addressing your challenges, you can continue to rise above any obstacle and inspire others to do the same.

  • Continuous Improvement: You’re passionate about constantly growing and evolving professionally and personally. People typically only have to correct you once and you automatically put their feedback into action, which makes working and interacting with you an enjoyable experience.
  • Building Trust: Your thoughtful and well-reasoned approach to life earns respect and credibility from others. People know they can count on you to stay level-headed and provide valuable feedback worth considering.
  • Navigating Complexity: You’re able to tackle complex situations with a calm and methodical approach. You’re definitely the kind of person people want to have around during hard times!

Analytical Owl Challenges:

  • Overthinking: Your tendency to analyze every detail can lead to overthinking and analysis paralysis. This means that your thoughts can spiral so much that you can’t decide the “right” move to make…so you don’t do anything.
  • Perfectionism: Ever been given a project with a deadline, and your overthinking made you procrastinate for so long that you ended up having to do it at the last minute, completely panicked, overwhelmed, and stressed out? Yeah, me too. As the Analytical Owl, your desire for perfection can get in the way of you taking action, which causes unnecessary stress.
  • Difficulty Letting Go: You might struggle to move on from setbacks or failures due to excessive rumination. You might find yourself replaying a situation over and over again in your mind, thinking about all the things you “should” have done/said, instead of chalking it up to “experience”, taking the lesson, and moving on with clarity on what you can do the next time you’re in a similar situation.
  • Missing the Big Picture: Your focus on the tiny details can sometimes block you from seeing the overall picture. You got some blinders on, babe!
  • Isolation: Has anyone ever told you that “you’re brilliant but I never feel like I can read you”? Your analytical nature might make you seem distant or unemotional to others. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing and doesn’t mean that there’s anything wrong with you. It’s just something to be mindful of.

Tips for The Analytical Owl:

  • Set Time Limits for Analysis: Give yourself a specific timeframe for researching and analyzing a problem. Once the time is up, make a decision and move forward.

For smaller decisions, try Mel Robbins’ 5 Second Rule. If you’re curious about what makes a decision “great”, read this Harvard Business Review article.

Also, always remember that if you make a decision and it ends up taking you in a direction you don’t want to go in, you can always make another decision to get a different outcome. You’re not going to be trapped by one decision forever. Each new moment is an opportunity to make a new choice.

Take the pressure off and take things one moment at a time.
  • Embrace “Good Enough”: Recognize that perfection is unattainable and unnecessary. Yes, it’s actually unnecessary. If you’ve ever seen someone with half the resume and training you have getting paid 3X as much as you, then you have proof that it’s really not necessary. Aim for progress, not perfection. You’re good enough as you are now, and you can always keep getting better in the future.
  • Trust Your Intuition: While analysis is important, don’t ignore your gut feelings. Your intuition can often guide you towards the right path. Learn to trust your instincts. This will make it easier for you to trust yourself.

Remember, your analytical skills are a valuable asset but they shouldn’t be stressing you out. By embracing your strengths and addressing your challenges, you can continue to make informed decisions, solve problems effectively, and achieve your goals.

This doesn’t keep you down for long, but that initial letdown can feel like a heavy blow.
  • Impracticality: Your grand ideas might lack a solid plan or realistic timeline. You either expect to get everything done quickly and easily, or you don’t set a deadline at all. This lack of structure can make it difficult to bring your brilliant visions to life, which can be disappointing.

  • Burning Out: Your endless energy can sometimes lead to exhaustion if you don’t take time to recharge. It’s great to be passionate, but rest is important to keep to keep the momentum going all the way to the finish line.

Tips for The Passionate Dreamer

  • Ground Your Dreams: Take time to break down your big dreams into smaller, actionable steps. This will help you create a roadmap to success that’s easy to execute.
  • Embrace Your Emotions: It’s okay to feel sad, disappointed, or frustrated. Allow yourself to feel the full spectrum of emotions, then channel that energy into positive action. Experiencing heavy feelings doesn’t make you a negative person. It actually makes you a well-rounded, whole being.
  • Create a Support System: Surround yourself with people who believe in you and your dreams, but who can also offer a dose of realism when needed. It takes a village to bring a vision to life. It’s okay to lean on the people that love you

Remember, your passion is your superpower. By embracing your enthusiasm, balancing it with a bit of practicality, and allowing yourself to feel the full range of emotions, you can create a life that’s as vibrant and fulfilling as your wildest dreams.
