Life can be tough, but a little kindness can make all the difference – for both the giver and the receiver! We could all use extra support and a little confidence boost these days. 

It doesn’t take much to spread love and add some joy to someone’s day. We’ve all had moments where we were feeling low and a kind word or gesture totally turned things around. 

Here are 6 ways you can be the love you want to see in the world! 

1. Give Someone A Genuine Compliment

I love when I’m out and about and I hear a woman compliment another woman and they both squeal with glee. Those moments bring me so much joy!

Compliments are the easiest way to build connection. But that doesn’t mean you should give out fake ones!

A heartfelt compliment can make someone’s entire day. It shows you appreciate what’s unique about them. Whether it’s their outfit, a skill, or a personality trait, your words become a little boost of confidence and validation.

(I especially appreciate when someone compliments me on an outfit that I wasn’t feeling 100% confident in. Major reassurance!)

A well-placed compliment can even be what pushes someone who was considering giving up to continue doing what they’re good at.

It costs you nothing to share some kind words with a stranger or good friend! Do it as often as you (authentically) can!

Kindness Challenge: Compliment 3 people today. The compliment can be about anything, just make sure it’s genuine and specific.


  • Go beyond the surface: Instead of “nice shirt,” try “I love your style, that color really suits you.” The more specific, the greater the impact!
  • Notice the little things: Compliment a skill, a personality trait, or even their infectious laugh. Bonus points if you choose something you know they might be self-conscious about that you genuinely enjoy!

2. Send a Surprise Note or Text

Marketing gurus say it all the time: “snail mail” is still one of the most effective ways of genuine communication.

When was the last time you got a handwritten letter in the mail? When you got it, how much did you appreciate the thoughtful act? 

In a time when comments get overlooked and emails get lost in inboxes, a handwritten note or thoughtful text is a lovely way to grab someone’s attention and express your support. It shows you cared enough to take the time to think of them and tell them how much they mean to you, which seems rare these days!

And if you made the effort to drive to the post office? That’s REAL love!!!

Kindness Challenge: Text or mail a letter to 2 people that you care about, letting them know how much they mean to you and why you’re proud of them. Be specific!


  • Personalize it: Include an inside joke, a shared memory, or something specific they did that you admire.
  • It’s okay to keep it brief but sweet: While I personally love opening handwritten letters that are 2+ pages long, don’t feel like you have to go overboard. A few lines can make a big impact!

3. Do a Small Favor… Just Because

We all know what it’s like to feel totally swamped and like we’re falling behind, and then someone comes and gives us a hand without us even asking. They become an angel in our eyes in that moment.

So try to be that for someone else. Doing a small favor, with no expectations or strings attached, is a powerful act of kindness. It could be grabbing a coffee for a coworker, offering to pick up groceries for a busy friend, or even just holding a door open.

We’re all in a hurry to be somewhere and do something. Making the time to help someone else is always awesome and appreciated.

Kindness Challenge: Do 1 small favor for someone today.


  • Be observant: Look for little ways you can make someone’s life easier. When you start looking for ways to spread kindness you start to see tons of opportunities everywhere you go!
  • Don’t make a big deal out of it: The joy is in the spontaneous act itself. If you make them feel like they have to worship the ground you walk on because you did 1 nice thing, that’s a douchey move and it’ll suck the joy out of the experience.

4. Share Something That Made You Smile With Someone That Could Use A Pick Me Up

My besties and I have a group chat filled with memes that get us through our stressful days. It’s something I look forward to every break. Do you?

Whether it’s a funny meme, a cute animal video, or a beautiful quote, spreading the joy you’ve found is a great way to connect. You never know how badly the person on the receiving end needs the boost.

Kindness Challenge: Share an inspirational quote or funny meme with someone you know is going through a rough patch. Add a message of support and encouragement to show them that you’re in their corner.


  • Consider their interests: We all have a different sense of humor. Make sure you share things that you know they’ll enjoy so you avoid accidentally offending them.
  • Add a personal touch: “This reminded me of you!” or “I thought you’d appreciate this.” or a funny sentence can make the experience of opening your message that much more fun.

5. Give Them Your Undivided Attention, Even If Only For A Few Minutes

In our fast-paced world, giving someone your undivided attention is a precious gift. It also shows deep respect.

Learn how to listen. We all love people that make us feel seen, heard, respected and valued.

Go above and beyond to make people feel like their thoughts matter. Their words matter. Their stories matter.

Their LIFE matters.

Always act like the person you’d want to bump into on your worst day. Be the light you want to see in the world.

Kindness Challenge: Give people your undivided attention when they talk to you today. Put your phone down, look into their eyes, and actively participate in the conversation.


  • You don’t have to sit and chat for long, especially if you have other items on your ToDo list. Just be intentional about showing them they have your full focus.
  • Ask thoughtful questions. Show interest and, if you have time, encourage them to share more. Let them know that they matter to you.

6. Give a Small, Unexpected Gift

We all love a “just because” gift.

A small gift, given out of the blue, can be a delightful surprise for people of all sexes and ages. It’s a physical manifestation of your affection and appreciation, which can make someone feel valued and loved.

It doesn’t have to be anything big. A bouquet of flowers or a cute drugstore trinket can put a smile on anyone’s face.

The fact that it’s unexpected and you cared enough to spend your money to buy it is more than enough to show someone they’re important to you.

Kindness Challenge: Take or send a gift to someone you care about. You can ship it to them from Amazon or drop it off in person.


  • Think about what they’d like: Buy something you think they’d actually like and use. Keep their interests in mind.
  • Focus on the gesture: Don’t spend money you don’t have. It’s the thought that counts.


Brightening someone’s day doesn’t take a grand gesture. Simple acts of kindness, like a genuine compliment or a surprise note, have a ripple effect. And the best part? Spreading joy makes us happier too! So, go ahead, make someone smile today. You might just start a chain reaction of positivity. 😉
